When I first became engaged, I knew I wanted to get married abroad.
Nice weather and an ‘All-Inclusive’ holiday with family and friends ‘all in one’ was exactly what we wanted so we decided on Sandals Ochi Beach Resort in Jamaica and after rescheduling 3 times due to Covid we finally made it on the plane.
Prior to flying, I had several telephone appointments with a wedding coordinator for Sandals where I was able to choose the venue for both the ceremony and reception, talk through the itinerary and plans for the day, as well as discuss any extras such as flowers and photography etc so by the time we came to go my mind was at ease and I had an idea of how everything was going to be.
Upon arriving in resort and after settling in, we had a meeting with the onsite wedding coordinator who once again confirmed our plan for the day and we went through the things I wasn’t sure about, such as getting to the venue from my room. The resort had a wedding car and booking appointments for hair and make-up – all of which were ticked off my list early on so I was able to relax and enjoy the first part of the holiday.
We also visited all the venues we had chosen to make sure they were right for us, and they were even better than the pictures!
During this meeting we confirmed our music choices that we had downloaded on a playlist and the hotel agreed to use our playlist on the day but also took a note of the songs so that they could source them for us as a backup which was really reassuring and showed that they were happy to accommodate our personal touches.
The wedding day itself went without a hitch, everything ran smoothly and on time and the wedding coordinator was there to oversee everything and keep us informed of what was happening next.
I wouldn’t change a thing about my wedding, and I would advise anyone that’s considering getting married abroad to go for it!
It can be daunting, and you do have to learn to relax and trust that they know what they are doing, you cannot be in control of every small thing, but everything is taken care of.
